Midas Ireland - Microelectronics
MIDAS Ireland (Microelectronic Industry Design Association) is a joint industry and academic organisation that defines and develops the future direction of the mircroelectronics industry in Ireland.
MIDAS was launched in February 2001. It is a national cluster consisting of the microelectronics design companies and third level institutions in Ireland, building on the already-strong relationships between them. Now in its eleventh year this unique network has grown steadily since its foundation and today consists of 25 industry members including 18 High Potential Startup Companies, Enterprise Ireland, IDA and academic members representing all the third level courses in Ireland that produce electronic engineering graduates.
Ireland stands out in terms of the start-up potential that it has in microelectronics design. Several startups have been recognized by the international venture community and collectively raised over €68M in 2009 and 2010, representing approximately 15% of total VC money attracted in Ireland during the period. Irish microelectronics start-ups are attracting increasing interest from significant global players. On the 2010 EETimes hot 60 microelectronics start-ups list, Ireland had 4 representatives with the highest number per capita of any country on the planet almost by an order of magnitude.
