NDRC and Eirgrid are working together to hold "Smart Grid Digital" workshop on Wed 8^th Feb 2012 at NDRC, Crane Street, Dublin 8. Arrival and registration is at 09:00 and the workshop ends at 16:15.

Smart Grid technology is Digital technology. Unlike some other areas of the Energy technology landscape, where Ireland Inc is destined to follow rather than lead, the Smart Grid domain offers an opportunity for Ireland Inc to take a leading position in the development of the technology. Our advantage comes from our solid ICT base, one that we have built up over several decades, and the opportunity can be realized by porting this capability over to develop the systems and applications that will realise the SmartGrid.

At the workshop in February we will bring electricity domain experts, researchers with a particular focus on Smart Grid, digital communications experts, some expertise in outlying areas such as payments, and 20-30 indigenous software development companies. Our goal for the workshop is to tease out a roadmap of the evolution of the SmartGrid from 2012 to 2025 and to identify specific development opportunities. In follow up, we will workshop with the participating software companies and academics to create specific co-development proposals.
