ICT Ireland and the Irish Software Association are currently developing a Transition Year Work Placement Programme in conjunction with Careersportal and Engineers Ireland. The programme which will be branded the 'Smart Futures TY Xperience' programme, will provide companies with a very easy 'off the shelf' work experience model, which can be tailored to each individual company's needs. We are currently devising a work plan and work sheets that students can use on the programme and also an employer handbook which will give you a guideline and check list for the duration of the student's placement.

The actual placement process will be managed through careersportal who are in the final stages of building their dedicated 'Xperience' portal. This portal will act almost like a mini jobs site where companies will post up placement opportunities which students will then apply. The application process from the student side will be managed by the TY coordinators so that genuine aplications are received. The TY coordinators will also play a crucial role in promoting the programme at school and student level.
