MACSI

Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science & Industry

The Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry is a network of Irish mathematicians who, through directed collaboration, use their mathematical modelling skills to investigate problems of current concern in industry, science and engineering. It is located within the department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Limerick and is supported by the largest single grant ever awarded to mathematics in Ireland (€4.34million from the Science Foundation Ireland Mathematics Initiative in June 2006).

Mathematics is a technology which, through MACSI, plays a role in developing an understanding of the complex mechanisms involved in many real processes and aids in process design, development and optimization.

MACSI promotes co-operation between universities in Ireland by operating as a network having full members at UL, UCC, NUIG, DIT, UCD, DCU, and TCD.

MACSI is currently engaged in a number of research projects across application areas such as Environment and Energy, Stochastics and Complexity, Bioscience, Scientific Computation, and Mathematics Education. The majority of these projects have either arisen from discussions with industry or are carried out in direct collaboration with companies. Currently MACSI has active partnerships with over twenty-five companies and industrial academic researchers including Analog Devices, Bord Gáis Energy, HSE, Carton Brothers, Quaternion Risk Management and Crystal Energy Ltd.
