Damovo Ireland provides enterprise ICT services and comprehensive solutions in unified communications, IP telephony, mobility, contact centre applications, speech self service and networking infrastructure.

The company also has a range of services offerings that aim to improve efficiency and reduce costs for client companies. As the communications industry has moved towards converged technology solutions such as Internet Protocol (IP), Damovo has engaged with the ICT Learning Network at the Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown (ITB) to upskill its engineers in IP and networking solutions.

The ICT Learning Network is part of the Department of Informatics at ITB. Led by Tom Nolan, it delivers CCNA, CompTIA A+ and Network+ programmes to continuing education students and industry. In consultation with the company, the ICT Learning Network designed a programme that would provide upskilling of Damovo engineers, addressing participant requirements while also complying with company objectives and time lines. A training needs analysis was carried out with a cross-section of employees to identify current knowledge of IP and network technologies within the organisation. The programme was designed to minimise the impact on business operations and also to reflect variation in expertise or responsibilities across the participating group. Between 4 and 7 days of training was provided. All participants undertook CompTIA Network+ certification examinations at ITB, after which a 75% pass rate was achieved across the company. The success of this employee training programme has allowed Damovo Ireland to establish a baseline level of competence in Network+ and has resulted in an improved capability and cross-functionality of staff. Most participants have achieved a recognised qualification as well as an improved knowledge of IP and networking that they apply in their day to day responsibilities. Overall company performance has improved as illustrated by a decrease in the number of escalations from first line support as a result of improved troubleshooting at the first line.
